Luckily someone had been harvesting coconuts nearby and happily did my durian for me. It was quite large and looked like a dead bodily organ and smelt like one too. Undetered I lifted the grotesque looking thing to my moist quivering lips and took a nibble, images of manly ladyboy whirling around in my head.
I was almost delirious with anticipation. He made slightly rude gestures with his fist indicating it would somehow be of benefit to my now completely crushed libido. This he finished with an alarmingly wicked smile.
So hanging my head I took the scary beast back to my room and using my flip-flop dug a hole in the sand and buried it. Firming it down with all my weight.
I never tried again. Of course I keep seeing them everywhere I go and I never forget that first moment, taste and sensation. It was all part of my right of passage as a young man. Now strangely Im again curious, certainly after reading this.
Recently I saw pink durians in the supermarket. Much smaller more petite, grotesque yes, but fresh looking being pink.
Like two lively looking little testicles, skinned at the butchery. Are the pink variety superior in any way? Coud pink turn me around? I live near nyc and tasted my first durian lately. My family loves it and said it tasted like banana and mango where as I tasted it and could barely swallow. To me it tasted like onions garlic and chives that were sweet.

Below are a couple and if you are able to, you might also like to try. The best four to try if you are a beginner are listed below with Arancillo being the very best for Westerners. Arancillo is a sweet Durian with a bitter aftertaste and very common in the Phillippines. This variety is the one that is commercially produced and exported. It is thought that this variety may be the one that will soon become available through export to the United States.
Kob White is a very huge durian weighing up to 5 kilos. It happens to be one of the best-tasting durians that you are ever likely to eat. After tasting Kob, you may decide not to taste any other varieties of durians, because this by far is best tasting Durian fruit variety.
Kob White is a white or grey fleshed durian with a very elongated shape. Another variety that we recommend you try is called Durio graveolens. Its smell is very mild and has even been described as odourless. So this is a very easy Durian to taste, especially if its your first time eating Durian. The Durio graveolens , or simply just graveolens, smell has even been described as roasted almonds or burnt caramel fragrance.

More items…. Separately, they both smelled terrible. Durian is a strange combination of savory, sweet, and creamy all at once. A durian is supposed to have subtle hints of chives mixed with powdered sugar. So relax and let the cacophony of flavors blow you away. DurianDurian might be widely known as the stinkiest fruit in the world but it has some competition in the cempedak, which is also native to Southeast Asia via Business Insider.
Some super-smellers even say that the smell of durian pales in comparison via Specialty Produce. Eating durian fruit might cause stomach discomfort, gas, diarrhea, vomiting, or allergic reactions in some people.

The process of fermenting the fish creates a strong rotten egg smell. It is so expensive because of its rarity: there are only about jennies in the landrace of Balkan donkeys that are milked for Pule-making and it takes 25 litres 6. What is it?
A large, smelly fruit that looks like jack fruit or a green porcupine. When picking out a durian fruit to buy, locals will first smell it, the stronger it smells, the better it will taste!
