The Indigenous-led project, known as Senakw, will be built on a 4. While Senakw will see the creation of 6, new homes, the buildings will only cover 10 per cent of the site.

Regardless, the project will mark a major milestone for Indigenous urban planning in North America. Carleton University School of Journalism and Communication. All rights reserved. Most Recent. Very good. Jessica Amaral Vancouver, Canada contributions. Gavatron07 Tasman, New Zealand contributions. It wasn't too hard to get on to from that direction. We appreciated being separated from the motor vehicles as we crossed over. PookyCake Victoria, Canada 11, contributions. Opened in a good year , the Burrard Street Bridge is a lovely 4-lane truss bridge that connects downtown to Kitsilano.

Perhaps the most distinguishing feature of this bridge is the large concrete towers found at either end. When crossing the bridge on a vehicle or on foot, it looks as though these towers could easily house somebody; however, this is quite literally window dressing. In reality, there is no room for anybody sorry, no cheap bachelor or bachelorette housing here , because the towers were built to hide the trusses from view.

In short, they exist to make the bridge more aesthetically pleasing. The crest for the City of Vancouver is also visible at the center.

It is typically a smooth ride. From an aesthetic perspective, I really appreciate this bridge. Besides the art deco structures already noted, it also provides lovely views of False Creek and the surrounding area. In addition, the bridge itself is quite photogenic and really adds to the cultural flavour of the city. When viewed from the Seawall, this classic structure very much complements its surroundings. Burrard Bridge is on of the main feeder routes to Granville Island.

It also seems to act as an umbrella to the market and stores below. Peter F Vancouver, Canada contributions. One of the best views of English Bay is from the Burrard Bridge. However, recent alterations will obscure that view for those driving across it. Cyclists will be able to see better as there are bike lanes on both sides of the bridge.

The best view would be on foot. This is all due to the installation of barriers and fences that have been quite the local controversy in recent months. The bridge itself is a magnificent example of art deco design. It was a time when designers didn't just build things for utility, they built them beautiful as well. On foot, allow 20 minutes to cross in either direction.

Bus stops are conveniently located near Pacific at the north end, and Cornwall in the south. Access on foot or on the 22 bus, or about 5 minutes walk from Granville St. What you see is, well, what you get from the experience.

There are actually 2 distinctly different perspectives. Up above, crossing the bridge with the mass of humanity presumably trying to get to work a closer look shares an historical perspective. We did not travel by car above as our perspective was more water-level oriented via False Creek ferries. But did you know this era bridge it has been updated so breathe easier as you transverse it gives its "propers" i. If you cross the bridge street level then you will see the lighted braziers to remind us all of the heat and light the soldiers would have had as their mainstays at that time.

Burn those braziers forever and never let us forget the sacrifice of your kin. Just as a reminder, the bridge has had attention paid to its infrastructure.
