Valderrama rides a vintage Vespa Rally. Still, their involvement was probably a smart move in the long run. Exactly, Eric. Which I loved , BTW. I hope the many folks who are likely to run out and buy a scooter after seeing this movie will remember these moments, and take them to heart.

OTOH, many people are pleasantly surprised at the social aspect of scooter riding; that Larry was so readily accepted by the scooter group is not at all far-fetched, as you point out.

Fri Jan 28, pm link quote That scoot dose very little for me. Fri Jan 28, pm link quote It'll look much better if it came packaged with Julia sitting in front. Fri Jan 28, pm link quote for the most part I am hugely disappointed by mass market movies so I rarely go, or even watch them on DVD, but I might make an exception.

Fri Jan 28, pm link quote Don't know anything about the movie, but I do know Frank's Restaurant. Fri Jan 28, pm link quote I'm sure this won't cast anyone in the community in an embarrassing light, at all.

Fri Jan 28, pm link quote Odd - I just met one of Tom Hank's production assistants yesterday. Fri Jan 28, pm link quote mmm the casting call on there was interesting. Fri Jan 28, pm link quote What is that scooter that is pictured there? Fri Jan 28, pm link quote Still Shifting wrote: What is that scooter that is pictured there? R Looks like a Yamaha Riva cc, circa late 70's early 80's R I believe it's a Yamaha Riva. MV member dchernikoff had still has? I'd buy it if I had the space - it's a real time capsule piece. Fri Jan 28, pm link quote Ha!

Fri Jan 28, pm link quote I will make sure I see this movie. Sat Jan 29, pm link quote Boxes to tick mmm does it have lots of cursing, car chases, gun fights, retribution , sex scenes , retributional sex scenes and explosions in it?

Sat Jan 29, pm link quote I was wondering the same thing. Sat Jan 29, pm link quote Product Placement Yes it's got missed opportunity written all over it. Sat Jan 29, pm link quote The Riva is an awesome scoot. Sat Jan 29, pm link quote A movie ride? Sat Jan 29, pm link quote TheWasp wrote: A movie ride?

That's pretty optimistic. It's not like everyone went out and started a garage band after seeing "That Thing You Do! I think it'll be a more favorable depiction than "Wild Hogs" but won't send scores of people running to their local scoot shop.

It's a movie that's about a disaffected middle-aged guy. Most of those who are inclined to own a scoot already do. Sat Jan 29, pm link quote ericalm wrote: The Riva is an awesome scoot. Yeah that is all we can hope. And yes, the Riva is awesome. Especially when crammed in a Ruckus frame. Sat Jan 29, pm link quote oh heck yeah I am signed up. Sun Jan 30, am link quote Warning Maybe with your contacts should get a movie insider to appraise the film before it goes on general release because I'd hate to turn up an promote a movie even with A listers in it that tanks badly or for that matter uses a scooter to a negative effect.

Sun Jan 30, am link quote Maybe all you riders who live in the Hollywood area could organize and ride over to the premire of the movie it sure would be fun! Sun Jan 30, am link quote linoleum fondant gotta agree wi ya there bill tom looks right a tit Mon Jan 31, am link quote More information on the movie and the scooter That is a great reason to go to Lincoln I usually go there every monday to pick up ice cream and cheese for the cafe but today, no way!

Larry Crowne, however, sees higher education as a new experience, having been forced into reeducating himself after a layoff. There he links up with his professor, burnt out and jaded and played by Julia Roberts.

The tally of instances of professors willing to assume the role of pillion passenger to a student might seem to approach zero but, upon reflection I realize that I was that 20 year old student with a professor on the back on one occasion. He didn't look much like Julia Roberts though.

It definitely makes a good plot device. Larry Crowne is filmed partly on the campus of California State University Dominguez Hills, the college with the most racially diverse student body of any college West of the Mississippi.

Larry Crowne becomes associated with a scooter-riding coterie at the college. This film promises to ignite the divine fire of inspiration from the motorscooter muse in Southern California. Note that the presence of a spare helmet serves also as an invitation. It says: "I don't have a passenger but am prepared for one. Otherwise you would see more Rivas than Vespas. Clearly the scooter has,"personality". I don't think I could have sold my scooter, even if it was to Tom Hanks for 4 times the price.

I might have rented it to him or let him use it, as long as it wasn't going to be destroyed in the process. Can you imagine owning a scooter that was featured in a film?

That would be pretty cool. I wondered what happened to the Riva used in the film Maybe he got the bug and wanted to do something with scooters ever since. Sure, I get your points.

I edited my post with a little more opinion. And I must agree the Riva was chosen most likely because it's more of a challenge to seem stylish. I just really do hope scooters and their riders come out looking favorable in the movie and people don't leave theaters thinking "omg can you believe those awful scooters! A bit, "cooler" looking Riva via Flickr and By electrofreeze. As you can see, they can be dressed up enough to look pretty cool, with the right paint job. Bill Dog.

Scooters are nerdy? It all depends on how you ride them. The faster the cooler. Now you can call me narrow minded and a uncomprimising purest but for me there's only one Vespa and the rest are copies whichever country they come from.

How overjoyed would we all be be if Piaggio's best was sitting between Tom's legs? I'll even go and see the movie and wish my Ex well. Mon Jan 31, pm link quote. Why would Eric watch Mean Girls 2. I usually go there every monday to pick up ice cream and cheese for the cafe but today, no way! It is cold and icy and my car has no kidding a half inch of ice covering it.

Unfortunately, scooters and scooterists are all-too often the objects of mockery in movies and TV. Personally, I'd like to see the movie do well enough for them to make a sequel. For example, it could be that Larry Crowne still won't be able to find or keep a job in this crappy economy after getting his degree Think about it, it could be the Mad Max for today's generation Molto Verboso.

Tue Feb 08, pm link quote. Maybe with your contacts should get a movie insider to appraise the film before it goes on general release because I'd hate to turn up an promote a movie even with A listers in it that tanks badly or for that matter uses a scooter to a negative effect.

I'll admit there's very little chance of that happening with the two stars involved but who remembers Mad Max beyond Thunderdome or Torque and Biker Boyz? Na, it should have been a retro Vespa and not a unslightly plastic fantastic that is there to make our hero look a bit dorky. Surely that's why they chose it to create sympathy for our underdog? If he was astride a PX, even a doggy one or a ET he'd be looking way too sexy for his status as the man who lost everything, including his sense of style.

Forgive me, I'm prejudging it all but what kind manufacturer of scooter do you first think of? Even George Clooney rides an MP3. Bill XX Talking of losing everything maybe Tom could get some gloves while he's at it. Not like he can't afford them. Someone agrees with me? Wow I'm amazed.

Bill XX. Gods Country. Mon Feb 28, pm link quote. Clip of the movie now available! Anyone who watched Jimmy Kimmel last night saw Tom Hanks and this trailer. Wed Jun 01, am link quote. Wed Jun 01, pm link quote.
